Ladies on the Links at Geneva National

Girls’ night out has a whole new swing to it at Geneva National. Fondly known as Ladies on the Links, this sporty social hour brings together women of all golfing abilities Thursday nights in the summer.

“If you’ve ever wanted to try golf or just want to do something different with your friends, this is the place,” says GN teaching professional Heidi Haas, soon-to-be your new favorite mentor. “You get to spend a relaxing hour-and-a-half with friends in a beautiful setting doing exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise.”
The evening warms up with some yoga to get your golf muscles in the groove while enhancing your range of motion and flexibility. Then, depending on the day, the group moves over to the range to practice driving, chipping, and other fundamentals. The rest of the time is spent out on the course and then to the terrace for drinks.
“Ladies on the Links is for all levels – from the beginner to the advanced player. And it doesn’t matter if you can’t make it every week, because Heidi works on a different stroke each week,” says golfer Cindy Hill. “You get a lot of opportunity to drill that stroke – whether it’s driving or chipping – so that when you get out and play the game, the pro tips are still fresh in your mind.”
Since coming to Geneva National two years ago, Haas has extended the program’ season to accommodate increasing golfer-girl demand. Even better, she’s picked up on a family trend: more moms putting around with their daughters.
“How awesome is it to be able to spend a couple of hours unplugged with your daughter,” poses Haas. “Being outdoors is not a new concept for this, but golf itself provides the perfect platform to reconnect. group shot People forget about that.”
Home to the power deal, the greens are also known to be a place of business and networking. “Golf is so relational — you can play it with your family and friends as well as your colleagues,” Haas notes. “Golf is a culture and lifestyle. And it’s a perfect sport for women because you can own it – the game is up to you and the choices you make.”
Another – albeit a tad trivial and a lot trendy — reason to play is that women’s golf apparel has really teed it up a notch. Just take a peek at GN’s pro shop, outfitted to the nines with fashion-forward skorts, golf dresses, and fitted tops. “There are no more boxy golf shirts,” celebrates Haas, from the Lycra® comfort of her golf leggings and zip-front sleeveless number.
Not to worry if you’ve not geared up, according to Haas, as most women wear athletic apparel and either golf or tennis shoes. (Hint: Just avoid denim.) Geneva National also has spare clubs for the ultra-amateur.

Open to the public, Ladies on the Links starts July 2 and runs every Thursday through August 13. A $30 fee per date includes teaching, greens fees, cart, practice balls and two post-play drinks in the clubhouse. Simply make a reservation with Heidi and pay in the pro shop before the 5:30-7pm girls’ night begins.
